Morley Manor Co-Op

Our History

The idea of building Morley Manor was conceivd early in 1971. Early planning came into play for the purchase of necessary property located on Morley Avenue and Oakwood Boulevard.

On July 1, 1972, members were requested to make an initial payment of $1,000 on their apartment. Sixty eight responded. Two months later, in September, a request of $3,500 was made. In mid 1973 the sum of $3 million had been paid by the membership. In spite of this some money had to be borrowed. This was rapidly paid off. Later, in 1977, the entire building was paid for in cash via a settlement.

Complexes such as Morley Manor as a rule are not erected by occupant-owners; but multi-million dollar Morley Manor with its over 200 apartments is an exception thanks to Morley Manorites.

Apartments in the building are sold, not rented. Morley Manor is sequestered near Ford Field, one of Dearborn’s nicest parks, and overlooks the meandering Rouge River.

In the confines of Morley Manor are to be found limitless opportunities to play, to work, and enjoy living.

The building’s offices are on the ground floor, as is the mail room. North of the office is the social lounge with a brown and yellow schematic, a dining room, its spotless kitchen does provide community residents to have parties. To the east is an assembly room, and sauna bath. The Meditation Chapel, with a stained glass window, a sound system has items associated with non-denominational chapel. On the ground floor are classrooms, a library, and billiard room.

The well landscaped grounds sport a putting green, rolling lawns, beaucoup parking space, including carports. Next door, if you wish, you may seek pleasure in gardening, vetetables or flowers.

Morley Manor is managed by a leading firm, Beanstalk Real Estate Services, which specializes in managing buildings of all kinds.

After three years of litigation, Morley Manor Cooperative Inc. was finally awarded a warranty deed on December 14, 1977 giving us ownership of land and building. November 2, 1977 we were granted a certificate of occupancy by the City of Dearborn, and on October 25, 1977 we approved the Articles of Incorporation, Membership Certificate, Occupancy Agreement, and the By-Laws in a general meeting.
